The biggest day of my whole life, lol
Log Off is out today and available wherever books are sold
Log Off is out today! It kicks off, if not the biggest day of my whole life, lol, one of the biggest months of my whole life. Thank you to everyone who preordered the book directly through Shabby Doll House, those have all shipped and people are starting to receive them—very exciting! The novel is now available through global book retailers everywhere. You can order a copy from your favorite independent bookstore, request it through your local library, or buy it directly through any of the retailers listed here. I personally like to support my local shop Bookeater (and the host of the June 15th Rochester event).
I was texting with my publisher Lucy K Shaw (something I’ve been doing daily for the last six months, lol) and we were talking about how moved we are by how many people have helped Log Off and Oscar d’Artois’ The Island (also out today) already. It’s nearly a hundred. We’ve started to thank you all, and will continue to do so, but I also want to say thanks here.
I figured a good way to do that would be to summarize everything Lucy, Oscar, and I have been up to in the last few months. It took a lot of planning and we could not have done it without the help of a lot of kind and generous people.
Here are some things we’ve been up to:
With the help of many friends (thank you), we organized a ten-city tour that spans bookshops, backyards, and bars (thank you to all the venues) and made most of them reading events, inviting local writers in each city to read with us (thank you to all the readers, I’m really excited about this part). Seems very ambitious, I know, but don’t worry, we’re still a bit shabby. Can’t wait for the inevitable moment we realize we forgot to book some leg of train travel, or forget to bring food for eight hours of transit, or something.
We did a podcast series around the themes related to The Island and Log Off and each one featured a cast of contemporary writers. The first episode “LiveJournal & The Early Internet Diary to Autofiction Pipeline” featured Elle Nash, Lucy K Shaw, Sebastian Castillo, Juliet Escoria, and yours truly. The second episode “My Fucking Birthday: Older, Wiser, & Closer to Death” featured Mike Young, Rachelle Toarmino, Caroline Rayner, Oscar d’Artois and Sebastian Castillo. Thank you to the writers who joined these roundtables. The third Log Off-centered episode is about ~Fiona Apple~ and drops later this week.
We got some nice press. Dennis Cooper wrote about the books on his legendary blog and Tyler Dempsey had me on his excellent podcast. And more press TK. I’ve been on the other side of that, and know how much work it takes to prepare for an interview or write a thoughtful piece, thank you to y’all.
Many folks have already shared pictures of the books or our tour flyers on social or sent us kind messages. Thank you and keep it coming, this really helps—it helps the books reach others and personally, assuages my own slight nervousness.
Okay, that’s it. Sending this post and then going to work (thank you to my coworkers who have been very sweet and supportive about the book since it was announced) and then in the evening, I’ll go meet up with Lucy and Oscar for some lite celebrations (thank you to them, most of all), before we head out to Philly tomorrow, the first stop on our tour.
See you soon!
Congratulations Kristen, what an awesome milestone! Ordered!!
Amazing!!!! Congrats Kristen!!!!! I actually can't remember if I preordered it—can I really get it anywhere in the UK?? Going to listen to all the podcasts now :)
