Logging on to Log Off
Howdy, I have a novel called LOG OFF coming out in late Spring 2024 with Shabby Doll House.
What’s the novel about? Well…
This is my debut novel, my first book, and I’m excited, but also a little nervous. Like many writers, I don’t love self-promotion, nor talking about myself. But what I do love talking about is books, writing, and publishing, particularly independent publishing, a world I’ve been proudly part of my whole life—from my early days of zines and blogging, to starting a literary magazine, to leading a support team that helps writers.
I also believe in transparency and sharing what I learn. If you know me, you know I’m always the person who is providing advice to a friend about an artistic project, or providing encouragement during a moment of creative doubt. The reality is, whether your book is released on an indie press or a big 5 publisher, you’re going to have to do some of your own marketing and embrace a DIY spirit, so you might as well have a little fun with it along the way.
This Substack will be a peek into my novel’s publishing process with Shabby Doll House, links to publishing resources, interviews with other indie publishers, and other tips that I hope will be useful or interesting, particularly to other writers. It’ll also probably just be a space where I geek out about books, writing, craft, as well as some of the inspirations for the novel, including LiveJournal, the early internet, Y2K aesthetics, and 90s suburbia.
